SECETARY/TREASURER’S REPORT
First off, I want to apologize to all CTA members for the lack of reports submitted from the CTA Executive committee to the Trapper & Predator Caller magazine.
We will be making a better effort to have a report printed in every publication.
I hope you’ve all had a safe and successful trapping season.
Unfortunately the anti’s are back at it again. The State of Connecticut Environment Committee has raised a new Bill (SB.# 994) that is a change to the general statute (26-72), this new bill makes the use of foothold and conibear traps illegal in the use of trapping furbearers.
Once the public hearing date is announced, I will mail each member a flyer with a request for attendance to the hearing. It is imperative that we attend this hearing to denounce this bill and have our voices heard.
This bill IF passed will basically do to us the same as what was done to our neighbors in Massachusetts.
As you can see, it is important to stay organized and maintain a healthy membership of active and supportive members. Your renewal of membership fees is only one way to stay involved.
We need further support. There is only a handful of CTA members active in this organization.
We need members to step up to the plate and assist us in this constant endeavor to keep trapping alive in the state of Connecticut.
I requested support at this past years CTA Rendezvous, and I will ask you again.
I have been your Secretary/Treasurer for the past 11 years. I would like to participate in other opportunities to protect our trapping heritage and rights within the CTA. I need one of you to volunteer as the new Secretary / Treasurer.
If you are ready to get involved, show up at the sprint Fur Sale and let us know!
Our CTA Spring Fur Sale is scheduled for March 28 at the Fin, Fur, and Feather Club. Doors open at 8 a.m. and all fur will be collected until noon.
We have been exploring opportunities to reduce the time frame of the day’s fur auction.
If you can have your fur tagged before the fur sale, this would assist us in the time it takes to have the on-site DEP representative go through all of the fur for tagging.
Though tagging is available and having your fur pre-tagged is not a requirement, if you have the time and opportunity to have it pre-tagged, we’d appreciate it.
I am doing my best to keep up with your membership updates and renewals. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your membership, please do not hesitate to give me a call at 860-741-0728 or send me an e-mail at trapper43@hotmail.com.
See you at the fur sale.
