PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Season’s Greetings,
It’s almost Thanksgiving and Christmas is right around the corner.
Remember the children are out of school for two weeks around Christmas. Take a child with you on the trap line. Also, traps and trapping supplies make great Christmas gifts. I would rather get a new tail stripper than a tie.
As the cold weather approaches, there are a few things you can do to stay safe. Be careful on the trap lines this winter with the ice and snow, especially the water trappers. Try not to trap alone and always keep your cell phone with you. Let someone know where you are going.
It looks like the fur prices are staying up.
May your holidays be safe and happy. Please pray for all our brave men and women who risk their lives for our country and our freedom. God bless you and your family in the coming year.
Happy trapping. — Dan Baker III
DISTRICT 8 REPORT
First meeting for the season, was a good one. We had a decent turnout, especially since trapping has not yet started. We welcome Darryl Calloway who attended his first meeting and signed up as a member. He is not currently a trapper, but has quite a interest in all outdoor pursuits.
Roger read over his notes for two District meetings plus his convention notes.
Donald brought us up to date with what is going on in Delaware. Their trapping laws are being gone over and revised. This has all come about due to the presence of the coyote. They were too late to get anything changed for this year, but next year may be a different story. He will keep us posted.
The high fur prices and the effects it will have on all trappers was much talked about. There should be some good come from it, but there are also many negatives to be dealt with.
We talked of rabies, fur prices, fur buyers, Nafa, dates for upcoming events, trap preference changes of editors, and a host of various other subjects. A good time was had by all.
Each member had their chance to talk of their goals for the coming season.
Our December meeting date has been changes to the third Tuesday instead of the fourth due to us not wanting to meet on Christmas Eve.
The NTA cash calenders were offered to all.
Some used traps from a local man were offered to anyone interested. Jamie had over bought on some black hole trap converters and offered the extras for sale.
Donald will bring in the current fur prices being offered locally at each meeting.
Roger announced his pending retirement at the end of November. He has worked 42 years for the US Postal Service.
Dist 8 welcomes any MFT members and other visitors. Come share your knowledge with ours and join in the camaraderie.
Dist 8 meets the fourth Tuesday during trapping season at 7 PM at the home of Bob Calloway. He lives at 14313 Cherry Lane, near Tuckahoe State Park between Centreville, Md and Ridgely, Md Call Bob at 410-634-1501 for further directions.
Dist 8 voted to continue our pelt donation to the treasury of Dist 8. Anybody willing, please bring in one pelt to our December meeting on the 17th. Proceeds go to continue our meetings.
